I have been thinking about facilitation a lot lately. Mostly because I was reflecting on some of the skills I have not exercised as much while realising some of the skills I have either learnt or exercised more.
Facilitation and being in a room with eager participants got me googling and reading and I came across this and it got me excited!
I came across Action Mapping by Cathy Moore. It may not be new to some of you, but for me, it reinvigorated a way of calling to action in training or even meetings.
What I love about this action mapping concept is its four easy steps AND you can bet you can explain the good old return on investment or ‘ROI’ in need!
In summary:
- Identify the business goal
- List actions that people must take to make it happen not knowledge
- Design a practice activity around each activity (that mirrors the real world)
- Identify what people (really, really) need to know!
